Curriculum Alignment Matrix (CAM) Tool and Instructions

[VPP CAM]

The Curriculum Alignment Matrix (CAM) Tool allows training institutions to compare their Veterinary Paraprofessional (VPP) training program against WOAH's Curricula Guidelines for Veterinary Paraprofessionals to check alignment with the Guidelines.

SUMMARY

The Curriculum Alignment Matrix (CAM) Tool is an assessment tool that allows Veterinary Paraprofessional (VPP) training programs to compare their own curriculum against WOAH's Curricula Guidelines for Veterinary Paraprofessionals to check alignment with those guidelines. The assessment tool is available as an Excel spreadsheet where programs can enter course information and identify gaps in modules, course units, or learning outcomes compared to the standard set by the Curricula Guidelines. The tool was released in 2020 for use by educational institutions, laboratory managers, or government officials, and is publicly available in English.

The CAM Tool is published by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), a leading global authority for safeguarding and improving animal health with 182 member countries. WOAH, founded as OIE, was established in 1924 and continues to develop, renew and revise its standards and guidelines on the quality of Veterinary Services. WOAH champions a “One Health” approach to health security, which asserts that human and animal health are interdependent and that preventing diseases in animals is the most effective way to safeguard human health. The CAM Tool was developed a year after the release of two companion Guidelines for Veterinary Paraprofessionals to serve as a complementary self-assessment tool. To create the original guidelines, WOAH convened an ad hoc Group on Veterinary Paraprofessionals including 16 educators, regulators, experts, and representatives of veterinary paraprofessional associations from 10 countries.
