SUMMARY

These training modules cover a wide variety of content related to biorisk management including occupational safety, bio-containment facilities, laboratory equipment, incident management, audits, inspections, and the shipping of biological specimens. In addition to its main content, each module contains an action plan detailing what actions should be taken in the workplace following the completion of the training module. The modules each reference the AMP (Assessment, Mitigation, and Performance) model of effective biorisk management. AMP refers to the process of assessing biological risk, mitigating that risk, implementing an effective risk management solution, and continually improving the risk management system.

The Ugandan Ministry of Health produced these training materials. The Ministry of Health is a cabinet-level ministry within the Ugandan government. It is responsible for the country’s health sector and handles capacity development, technical support, emergency preparedness, epidemic prevention, coordination of health research, and evaluation of health sector performance in addition to many other health-related matters. As of November 2021, these training modules are currently used in Uganda. The modules are also relevant to an international audience since they address international standards for biosafety, risk management, incident response, and specimen transport. As of January 2022, the modules appear to only be available in English.
