SUMMARY
This set of slides covers the principles, objectives, and core elements of a safe and effective biomedical waste management program. Biomedical waste may refer to waste from microbiology laboratories, human blood and other body fluids, animal waste, or discard medical objects. Waste management programs can reduce the negative impact of this waste on the surrounding environment and the health of employees. This document provides guidance on establishing safe and effective sample transportation, treatment, and triage systems as a part of a comprehensive waste management program. The document also includes several short questions designed to test the audience’s knowledge of the content.
These slides were originally presented by Dr. Mohammed Benbouida of the Moroccan Biological Safety Association, a non-governmental association tasked with disseminating information about biological risks, promoting biosafety as a scientific discipline internationally, and serving the needs of biosafety and biosecurity professionals in the Kingdom of Morocco and at the MENA region level. As of January 2022, these slides are only available in French.
