SUMMARY
To improve biosafety and biosecurity training for Argentine practitioners, the Argentine Association of Microbiology (AAM) offers an online course on “Biosafety and Biosecurity as Essential Pillars of the ‘One Health’ Concept,” organized by the Biosafety and Biosecurity Subcommittee. The course is geared towards students, laboratory managers, or laboratory technicians practicing in Argentina or abroad. Registration and payment are required, although discounts are available for Argentine students and AAM members. Between September and November, the course offers 18 hours of instructional time spread across nine topic modules, including personal protection, biocontainment, waste management, biosafety, and biosecurity, among other topics. The course also focuses on the “One Health” Concept, which recognizes that human and animal health are interdependent. This course is only available in Spanish and takes place in the fall as a synchronous series of Zoom lectures.
The AAM was founded in 1948 as a non-profit institution dedicated to uniting professionals practicing microbiology both in Argentina and abroad. Its mission is to contribute to the growth and hierarchy of microbiology as a branch of science, including by disseminating knowledge and educating or advising the community. The Biosafety and Biosecurity Subcommittee, which organizes this course, is dedicated to promoting scientific and technical activities on biosafety and biosecurity to increase professional training opportunities, along with other related issue areas. The AAM is a member of the International Union for Microbiological Societies (IUMS), the Latin American Association of Microbiology Associations (ALAM), and the International Federation of Biosafety Association (IFBA).
