Biocheck.UGent surveys
[Biocheck surveys]
Biocheck.UGent is a scoring system for measuring biosecurity risk on a farm in order to manage disease spread and ensure physical security.
SUMMARY
Biocheck.UGent is a scoring system to measure biosecurity risk at the farm level. The tool allows farmers to quantify the biosecurity risks associated with cattle, pig, poultry, and small ruminants. The scoring system focuses broadly on multiple disease agents, and identifies their shared characteristics and transmission routes. The tool also assesses aspects of physical security and access controls to align with other definitions of biosecurity. Survey responders have the option to receive personalized feedback based on their answers.
Biocheck was developed at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University and is now a spin-off company. The tool is useful both for academic research and for its practical applications by farm managers and other agricultural stakeholders. This site provides a map of biosecurity initiatives targeting different animal species and the total biosecurity score for each country as measured by surveys. The site also provides interactive online lectures, on-site biosecurity training, and audits performed.
The Biocheck tool is available for pigs, cattle, poultry, and small ruminants. It is accessible both online and in a PDF format and is available in English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
