SUMMARY

The Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS) sets out the requirements for Canadian containment facilities handling human and/or animal pathogens and toxins. The CBS outlines physical containment, operational practice, and performance and verification testing requirements. The first edition of the CBS was published in 2013, and the third edition was published in 2022.

The companion document to the CBS, the Canadian Biosafety Handbook, provides extensive guidance on how to achieve compliance with CBS requirements. The Canadian Biosafety App provides easy access to the CBS requirements via a mobile application and and online tool.
