Further biosafety/biosecurity resources include Biosafety Guidelines, Directives, Advisories, and the Biosafety Standard App.
SUMMARY
The Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS) sets out the requirements for Canadian containment facilities handling human and/or animal pathogens and toxins. The CBS outlines physical containment, operational practice, and performance and verification testing requirements. The second edition of the CBS was published in March 2015, in advance of the full implementation of the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act and Regulations.
The companion document to the CBS, the Canadian Biosafety Handbook, provides extensive guidance on how to achieve compliance with CBS requirements. A suite of Biosafety Guidelines providing topic-specific information isĀ available online. Additionally, Biosafety Directives and Biosafety Advisories (for new and emergeing pathogens) are published online. Finally, the Canadian Biosafety App is available in both a mobile and web based version.
