SUMMARY
The WHO Biosafety Risk Assessment Tool (RAST) is a mobile application to support laboratory staff with biological risk assessment as a complement to the WHO Laboratory Biosafety Manual (LBM4). The application is available for Android and iOS devices and can be accessed online and offline. It is available in multiple languages and may be expanded in the future.
Biosafety RAST is designed to simplify compliance by walking users through a series of logic-based questions to help provide an initial risk assessment for clinical and public health diagnoses, and animal and human research. The risk assessments can be saved. In addition to identifying risks, users can also use the tool to access recommendations to mitigate risks in their work. These recommendations can be downloaded and shared.
Biosafety RAST is intended to be a learning tool to aid in biosafety risk assessments, and navigating the basics of the LBM4 framework. Biosafety RAST supports personnel working in research laboratories, diagnostics laboratories, or field work settings.
