Australia's Biosecurity Future: Preparing for Future Biological Challenges
[Australia's Biosecurity Future 2014]
This 2014 report describes "megatrends" in the Australian biosecurity sector and the potential "megashocks" that may occur at the intersection of those trends. A follow-up report was published in 2020.
SUMMARY
"Australia's Biosecurity Future: Preparing for Future Biological Challenges" reports on the biosecurity "megatrends" facing Australia, and the potential "megashocks" to which Australia could be exposed. A megatrend is defined as, "a significant shift in social, environmental, economic, technological or geopolitical conditions that has the potential to reshape the way an organisation, industry or society operates" and this report describes five megetrends facing the Australian biosecurity sector. The way that the megatrends interact has the potential to create megashacks to Australian industry and environment.
This report was published in 2014 and there is now a follow-up report entitled "Australia's Biosecurity Future: Unlocking the Next Decade of Resilience (2020-2030)." Both reports are publicly available in English.
This report was published by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the Australian government agency responsible for scientific research. CSIRO includes several facilities, including the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), a world class animal health facility. The ACDP is currently developing new tools for biosecurity education that may be included in this library in the future. Until then, we included this document to highlight existing resources from the Australian groups.
